SWEEPSTAKES JUDGE: Ms. Elizabeth
Wenner - Surry My thanks to the exhibitors for providing so many nice Labradors for me to examine. I saw many Labradors that had the anatomy and balance that I like to see. I saw many youngsters with the proper front, good reach of neck and level topline that is correct. It’s encouraging to see so many promising youngsters that were sound and with happy Labrador temperaments. A few of the entries were a little tentative, and some of the coats were not in full bloom due to the time of year. Movement was difficult to ascertain on some of the puppies due to their exuberance. For the most part though, movement was true. I did see some side winding and paddling which is something to keep an eye on as these youngsters mature. A few exhibits were out of condition and tended to roll quite a bit on the move. It was a pleasure to see your lovely Labradors and spend some time with such a great group of people. |

This yellow really stood out from the moment that he walked in the ring. He has a great topline that flows smoothly from the neck to the tail, lovely reach of neck, gorgeous head, good coat and great bone. Nicely wrapped otter tail. This youngster is put together so well so it wasn’t surprising to see that he moved well and covered a lot of ground. I suspect that he will do well in the future. He went on to be Best of Opposite Sex in Sweeps. It was interesting to see later that he was from the same kennel as my Best in Sweeps. Nice going! |

What a lovely yellow girl. Although she is a young puppy, she is so well put together and balanced that she just stood out. She has a lovely profile with great reach of neck, strong topline with wonderful tail set, correct front, and strong rear. Her head is so pleasing with a soft expression emphasized by black pigment. She was in excellent coat in spite of the time of year. Lovely thick otter tail. She was a happy mover and held together in spite of her young age. She shows great promise for the future. It was a pleasure to award her Best in Sweeps. |

It was indeed a pleasure to judge the Jersey Skylands Specialty. I judged some excellent specimens especially the bitches on Saturday. You have some super animals in Intersex and it was a pleasure to go over so many good Labradors. Thank you to all exhibitors for giving me the pleasure of judging your animals. It was so good to hear the wonderful way my decisions were accepted, and how appreciative everyone was to each other. From my position inside the ring it sounded as if everyone was having a really enjoyable time, and I wish I could have been on the `other side of the fence` for just a little while. Thank you so much to Jersey Skylands for their excellent organisation of the show, also to the committee for their invitation to judge, and their wonderful hospitality. | BITCH JUDGE: Mr. James Nolan This was a memorable experience for me with wonderful weather, many top-quality Labradors and an overall background sound of exhibitors laughing and talking, having what seemed to me like a most enjoyable time at a good dog show. We were looked after exceptionally well and we thank the club for their kindness and generosity. Temperament in the Labradors was wonderful and it is a pleasure to go over such well-handled and clean Labradors. Coats were not at their best, not surprising considering the weather and the time of year, yet there are always a few who buck the system and hold their coats while all around them are losing theirs. As in the rest of the world we seem to have lost what was common in the 60s and 70s – gently swishing tails carried level with the topline when on the move. The standards may not specifically request this but it is a wonderful feature portraying the character of the Labrador and it is such a pleasure when it does happen. Perhaps it was just too hot on the two days of the show. |
